Region 1 VPPPA offers three scholarships each year.  The scholarships are named after individuals who were very instrumental in the early success of Region 1 VPPPA

The Scholarships Qualifications Include:

ERIC BARTSCH MEMORIAL SAFETY & HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP 

Awarded to a full-time student majoring in Occupational Safety or Occupational Health field.

CASWELL PLANTE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a full-time student that has a minimum grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 at time of application.

JOE GERVAIS MEMORIAL COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP 

Awarded to a full-time student with an outstanding record of community service.

Field of Study: Exercise Science/Physical Therapy Husson University

What captured the attention of the scholarship committee was her statement concerning the motivation for her future career goals.  “Paying it forward” is an admirable concept.  In her words, “I have had much experience seeing physical therapists and I want to give others that same positive and encouraging environment I had”.  “I eventually want to end up in pediatric physical therapy…I can give a positive impact on their lives”.

Winner: Alyson Cabral

VPPPA Company:  Dominion Energy

Field of Study: Biology

Alyson maintains a 3.93 GPA over 19 credit hours at the University of Massachusetts.  A well-rounded individual, Alyson’s collection of accomplishments includes Dean’s List Honors for the Fall 2021 term.

JOE GERVAIS MEMORIAL COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP 

Winner: Jeremy Hurt

Field of Study: Marine & Environmental Science

When reviewing his application, what captured the attention of the scholarship committee was Jeremy’s record of volunteerism while maintaining a 3.41 GPA at the University of Connecticut.
